Blackcurrants…

Northern Blackcurrant (Ribes hudsonianum)

I have found two different species of blackcurrant whilst I have been on Tagish Lake; both grown in similar habitats around swampy areas, usually closer to the lake, and have only just ripened fully. (They have a srong distinctive taste but most are extremely bitter!) The two species are: Norther Blackcurrant (Ribes hudsonianum) and Bristly Blackcurrant (Ribes lacustre). True to its name, the Bristly Blackcurrant has a lot more bristles in the form of both thorns and hairs on the fruit. These ones I made into jam (with a lot of sugar!!)
